Reflections of Botswana

In Gaborone we have the neatest little quilt shop called Kalahari Quilts. I just love it, and the people that own the shop there are so nice. For the last couple of months the woman that runs the shop has worked with me to design this quilt.

I was really excited when it just so happened that on the day that Dereje and I were in Gaborone picking up our visa we also got a call to say that the quilt was ready. It's got some really neat pictures of Botswana…especially the pictures of the woman carrying wood on her head, building a fire, and carrying a basket all her head (and you should notice that every one of these tasks is being done with a baby strapped to the back)! In the middle of the quilt is a beautiful Mowana (or Baobab) tree that is pretty indicative of Southern Africa…and the two Giraffes hugging each other next to the tree symbolize Dereje and I (or maybe we're neck wrestling…depends on what kind of mood we're in while looking at the quilt).

All in all I am really excited to have a quilt like this because it shows so many different things in Botswana. It truly is a "Reflection of Botswana".
