What has Saba been up to?

Well, now Saba is a big one year old...and she seems to know it. She's eating us out of house and home - which is pretty awesome considering that I once thought we would have a picky eater on our hands...now Dereje just looks at her and says "what's wrong with her, she always wants to eat!" Saba's favorite foods include pasta, miniature grapes, sweet potatoes, turkey, and Trader Joe's cat cookies....well, heck, just about ANY cookie is good in her book!
One of Saba's favorite places to hang out is the Children's museum just down the street from us! And - surprise, surprise...Saba is no longer afraid of the air vent!
In fact, I dare say she likes it!She also LOOOOOOVVVVEEEESSSS to look at herself in the mirror.

That cute little face looking back at her never gets old! Especially when that face involves a tongue!
We even love the museum so much that we took professional pictures there when Saba turned 1! The picture below is my favorite!
It's hard to tell but Saba was actually decked out in a tutu - and looked adorable!!!
So, that's pretty much what we've been up to! It's still too hot to go outside - I can't wait until we can go to the park and play. But, until then we are making do with the mall playgrounds and the children's museum.

Saba's 1st Birthday

As I blogger I have been more than delinquent...but I have good news - I'm back! Not only am I back, but am happy to announce that Saba is now 1 year old! Yes, the year has flown by (maybe they're longer for you as I haven't updated in well over a month) - but for me, it has been fast!
Saba is by far the best baby that anyone could ask for. She makes me laugh constantly...and I couldn't ask for a better job then the one I have...my job as a Mom. I love that I get to watch Saba grow and learn with each passing day. I love that I get to experience all of her wonder and joy every single day. I love that I can say without equivocation that being Saba's Mom has been the most amazing experience of my life. In a word, she is AWESOME.

On Sunday, we celebrated Saba's first birthday at her Grandma Didi and Papa Bruce's house. We had a great little family party with lots of balloons...and lots of cake! I am particularly proud of the "lots o cake" because I spent a good 3 hours of my life making and icing the cake....I was pretty excited about the huge heart shaped cake that Saba was really really overwhelmed by!
Saba daintily picked at the icing until I gave her a piece to call her own...she proceeded to dig in.
Then, of course, there were the presents. Saba received so many wonderful gifts! A portable DVD player from her grandma and Grandpa...and a Jungle Book DVD from Uncle Alex to go with it!
Dereje and I gave Saba felt play food that I had made for her earlier in the month.
Saba basically likes to stick every piece of felt food into her mouth at one time - I'm pretty sure she's practicing for a contest sometime in the future!And, I am also happy to say that Saba is now an owner of her very own Rody! Courtesy of Aunt Asse and Uncle Ayalneh! Saba is quickly becoming a Rody pro - she's only falls off every OTHER time now that she's been practicing.

Saba received so many wonderful things for her birthday and she was able to spend it with friends and family - which made it a very special day! Check out a video of the birthday girl below! Thank you everyone for making her day so special.
